Recent Oil Sketch

This is my son in his favorite spot in front of the TV. That day he wasn't feeling well so he actually stayed still enough for me to paint him. It also helped that he fell asleep halfway through the movie.

This looks great... both the painting, and the thought of taking a nap while watching TV. I could go for that.

Beautiful soft transitions between close values -especially on the face. Nice job!
How long did it take and how big is it?

Great sketch, Dave. I'm surprised your wife let you get the messy oil paints out right there in the family room. I hope you didn't get any paint on the furniture.

Wow it seems J.S.Sargent! your brush strokes and the colour synthesis are awesond :O
the other Lord of the Ring's caricatures are fantastic too
Cheers my friend!

Nice flesh tones and warm shadows. I can’t believe how fast you painted it.

Excellent!! The above comparison to Sargent is, I think, quite accurate on this one. I love how the face pretty much masses into one value, but still has structure.
