landscape painting

Here are a few of my landscape paintings from the last year. These were all done on location in about two hours. Plein air painting is so much harder than it looks, but it is a lot of fun to be out there enjoying the weather and the views. I envy the artists that can do this full time.

  1. Great landscape studies, Dave. All this kind of practice is probably why you're so good. I realize that the whole deal-with-the-devil thing helps a bit too, but I'm sure that doesn't give you THAT much of an edge.

By the way, I linked you on my blog. Let me know if you don't want me to.

  8. you are inspiringly good at your craft, Dave! do you work at Avalanche? Man, makes me want to pick up a brush (it's been way too long) and get on it!

way to be a scourge and a cattle prod to my artist butt.

  9. Thanks for the compliments everyone. By the way, I welcome suggestions for improvements as well. Jed, yeah I do work at Avalanche. Great place with great co-workers. Madmounty, I think rendering is just a matter of putting the necesary hours into it. I don't know how else to explain it, but I am a big believer in getting the big masses in first and not losing the bigger effect to unnecesary detail.

  11. These are great plein air paintings Dave! I agree with you that this type of painting is very difficult, probably the most difficult for me, that's why I find it so appealing i guess, I like the challenge. What you're doing here is just beautiful!
